clinging

“Everything that happens to you is for your own good. If the waves roll against you, it only speeds your ship toward the port. If lightning and thunder comes, it clears the atmosphere and promotes your soul’s health. You gain by loss, you grow healthy in sickness, you live by dying, and you are made rich in losses.

Could you ask for a better promise? It is better that all things should work for my good than all things should be as I wish to have them. All things might work for my pleasure and yet might all work my ruin. If all things do not always please me, they will always benefit me.

This is the best promise of this life.”

Charles Spurgeon, a meditation on Romans 8:28, quoted in The Promise by Robert J. Morgan

Spurgeon rocks. Would that more preachers would preach uncomfortable truths like that.

Bless yer heart, Abby. We still ache for you in the midst of this turn of events.

Abby, John, and Big boy James,
I worked at WPH during James stay and had the pleasure of walking him around when he was pulling an all nighter. My beloved Granny taught me that trusting in the Lord is the best and most secure safety net there is. I want to say to you all that blessing are just beginning, though this is a painful blow just know we are only here a short while, but when we get to see King Jesus oh what a day it will be, that angel that took flight not long ago will be James best friend forever. Yours in Christ…

    Hi John and Abby,

I haven’t been to your blog in awhile and was very saddened to hear of your recent loss. We lost our son three days before his first birthday and this quote from John Piper has really helped me and I thought I would share it with you. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

“When we pray as needy children looking away from our own resources to our trustworthy heavenly Father–He will hear us and He will give us good things. Sometimes just what we asked. Sometimes just when we ask it. Sometimes just the way we desire. And other times He gives us something better, or at a time He knows is better, or in a way He knows is better.” –John Piper

May God continue to be with all three of you and may you feel his presence. Love, Maetta
